Shahab Al Bahar

Dr. Shahab al Bahar is the Founder of Maydan 39. He is a scholar & practitioner with a critical, intersectional approach that spans urban policy, environmental design, ecological restoration, and social advocacy.

Dr. Shahab is an accomplished academic and design strategist with a diverse background across education and consulting. He has held multiple teaching assistant positions and served as Principal Academic Consultant, bringing deep expertise in design thinking and strategic development. His professional journey includes his role as Associate Design Consultant at Rock Design Associates in Chicago, and currently, he serves as Principal Design Consultant at M2 Strategy in Washington, D.C.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in architecture & fine arts from Rhode Island School of Design, a master's degree in landscape architecture from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in the constructed environment from the University of Virginia.
